Breast Augmentation Surgery

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a straightforward cosmetic surgery designed to enhance the shape of breasts, providing a fuller, rounder appearance. Typically, silicone or saline liquid fillings are utilized in this procedure. The choice of filling is determined by factors such as desired size, aesthetic goals, skin type, body shape, and age, with the latter being particularly crucial in the decision-making process. Our doctors will decide whether an implant or fat transfer will be more suitable for you. Breast augmentation may not solve droopy breasts, a breast lift must be done in that case.

Silicone

Silicone fillings provide a natural appearance to breast shape, comprising a silicone shell filled with silicone gel, mirroring the composition of the breast's mammary glands. Candidates for breast augmentation with silicone fillings must be at least 20 years old.

Saline

Saline liquid fillings offer a larger breast size compared to silicone fillings. They consist of a saline solution within a silicone rubber membrane, adjustable in quantity based on desired size. Candidates for breast augmentation with saline fillings must be at least 18 years old.

Pre-Operative Guidelines

Before undergoing breast augmentation surgery, our doctor will provide specific instructions that must be adhered to, including:

  • Refraining from smoking for at least one month prior to the surgery as it constricts veins and lowers blood oxygen levels.
  • Discontinuing any medications that thin the blood, such as combinations containing Aspirin and ibuprofen.
  • Avoiding stimulants like caffeine for two weeks before the procedure, as they can interfere with anesthesia.
  • Steering clear of blood thinners such as alcohol and vitamin combinations for two weeks before the surgery to minimize the risk of bleeding, as they often contain vitamin E.

Post-Operative Guidelines

It's important to note that the recovery period following breast augmentation typically ranges from four to six weeks. To ensure optimal results and expedite the healing process, patients should adhere to specific instructions provided by their doctor, including:

  • Wearing the medical bra for one month post-surgery to facilitate healing.
  • Minimizing strenuous activities and refraining from exercise for at least a month.
  • Maintaining a smoke-free environment for two months post-procedure to support proper oxygen levels necessary for healing.
  • Avoiding high temperatures, such as those found in Turkish baths or saunas.
  • Limiting exposure to harmful sunlight for at least one month after surgery.
  • Refraining from lifting heavy objects for four to six weeks following the procedure.
